Why your DTF cracks after 5 washes (and how to stop it)
Premium DTF should survive 50 home washes. If yours cracks at 5, one of these four things is wrong.
1. Press temperature
320°F is the sweet spot. 305°F undercures the adhesive — the transfer feels good day one but releases from the fibers in the dryer. 340°F scorches the film.
2. Pressure
Medium-firm. Light pressure = poor fiber penetration. Crush pressure = ink bleed and a stiff hand. Set your press to where the foam compresses about 60%.
3. Peel timing
Our film is cold peel. If you peel it warm because the customer is waiting, the adhesive layer separates from the ink layer and you've just printed a sticker that lifts in 3 washes.
4. Detergent and dryer
Tell the customer: cold wash, inside out, no bleach, no fabric softener, low-tumble dry. Fabric softener coats fibers and breaks the bond over time. We print this on every receipt.
